The Real McCoy
– the story of Cutty Sark Scots Whisky and Glenrothes
David Wishart will present a talk and tasting at Rothes House, Glenrothes Distillery, at 2.00pm on Friday 28th April Ticket Price: £10 Discover the flavours of Scotch malt whiskies at this talk and tasting by David Wishart,
author of "Whisky Classified: Choosing Single Malts by Flavour" and Whisky Analyst, a new computer system for classifying single malt whiskies by flavour.
David will guide you through the history and romance of Scotch whisky, from the aqua vitae of the early monasteries, the alchemist's art of turning barley into medicine, and hedonistic uisge beatha
of remote Scottish crofts, to the taverns of Edinburgh's Royal Mile and hot toddies in New Town drawing rooms. During US Prohibition in the 1920s, Cutty Sark was smuggled into the speakeasies of Boston, New York
and Chicago by a bootlegger named Captain William McCoy. Such was the popularity of his light, premium Scotch whisky that speakeasy patrons demanded the "Real McCoy", an expression that subsequently
entered the language on both sides of the pond. David's talk recalls the history of Glenrothes, the signature malt of William McCoy's Cutty Sark Scots Whisky, with a tasting of several vintages: Glenrothes 1979, 1985, 1991, and Select Reserve; and Cutty Sark 25
years old, voted "Best of the Best" for Whisky Magazine, 2003. Guests will be welcomed with a Cutty Sark Pink Ginger Cooler, and it will also be possible to purchase signed copies of "Whisky Classified", second edition 2006, price
£12.50. Tickets are going fast for this fine combination of rare malts and Whisky Classified, second edition, at a very special price. So don't hang around .... book now, to avoid disappointment. CLICK HERE TO BUY TICKETS ONLINE or telephone (01343) 542666.
